Translational Research Department

Head of department : Sergio Roman-Roman

Since 2003, the Institut Curie’s Translational Research Department has provided clinicians and researchers with human and technological resources for the development of application-oriented projects, with a view to improving care for cancer patients (assessment and validation of diagnostic, prognostic, and patient support tools, development of biomedical devices or therapeutic approaches resulting from basic research).
To be as close to the patients as possible, the Translational Research Department is administratively linked to the Institut Curie Hospital Group and maintains close ties with the Research Center, an abiding source of creativity in oncology.

Priorities of the Translational Research Department

  • Improvement of the complementarity of researchers and clinicians through joint programs
  • Identification of the biological, genetic, and pharmacological parameters of tumors
  • Immediate identification of tumors that may metastase
  • Definition of therapeutic targets for each tumor.

Translational research projects carried out in the Translational Research Department

The department is pursuing a diverse range of projects:

  • internal projects involving only Institut Curie clinicians and researchers,
  • projects involving collaboration with other institutions or the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
  • projects with expertise provided to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries
  • in proof of concept studies, licensing, and the creation of start-up companies.
