Hosting programs for senior researchers on sabbatical

Support from the Edmond de Rothschild and Yvette Mayent Foundations enables Institut Curie to award fellowships each year, allowing internationally-renowned scientists to spend time working at one of the Research Centre's laboratories..

The sabbatical terms for these foreign professors vary (from 4 months minimum to 9 months maximum, with the option to break up the total time into multiple stays of at least 2 months each). During their sabbatical, they are required to give at least three talks on a topic of their choice and to meet with Research Centre researchers in both Paris and Orsay.

Applications are evaluated by an Institut Curie committee. The winners are informed before Christmas so that the fellowship can be disbursed beginning on January 1 of the following year.
Fellowships are paid in the form of a salary subject to social security contributions. Their amount varies depending on the fellow's experience.

Each fellow is reimbursed for the cost of one round-trip flight in economy class, from the airport nearest his usual residence to Paris.

Applications must be submitted by September 1 and include the following documents:

  • a letter of support from the director of the host laboratory confirming that she is willing to host the applicant in her laboratory,
  • a cover letter describing the opportunities for scientific interaction with researchers in the host unit and at the Research Centre,
  • a complete curriculum vitae,
  • confirmation that the applicant intends to give a minimum of 3 talks (maximum of 5 depending on the length of stay) to Institut Curie researchers on a topic of his choice and to visit the Orsay laboratories and meet the researchers on site there.

To apply, submit the required documents to:

  • Geneviève Almouzni, Director of the Institut Curie Research Centre,
  • or directly to the Director of the Research Unit where you wish to be hosted, who will pass it on to the Director of the Research Centre.
