Patient rights
Respect of the rights of patients with cancer
Your first right is to be treated in the best conditions of quality and safety. In addition to this essential requirement, one of our priorities is the respect of patients’ rights (see the Charter of Patients’ Rights).
Information for patients
Everyone has the right to be informed of the state of his or her health. This information must be understandable. It concerns the treatments offered, the associated risks, possible side effects, and so forth.
Confidentiality
To respect your rights, we ensure the confidentiality of all the information concerning you (respect of professional secrecy) and the respect of your privacy and religious beliefs, at all times during your treatment program at the Institut Curie. You can request that your presence at the Institut Curie not be divulged.
Information for your family and friends
It is entirely natural that your loved ones should be interested in your state of health. All the information concerning you is confidential. However, if you wish, information can be communicated to your family and friends. You should designate a person to be told if there is a need, and a person of trust.
Consent
Biological samples collected for diagnostic purposes or to determine a treatment may be kept for subsequent use in biomedical research. Should this be the case, your physicians will give you with relevant information and ask for your consent.
