Description

Abstract:

Using cutting-edge intravital microscopy we have investigated the carcinogen-driven initiation and progression of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. We imaged, on a weekly basis, multiple cancerous lesions for over 24-26 weeks and discovered that within the same animal  they either progress to a malignant state (20%), halt their progression (40%),  or completely regress (40%). Combining this approach with a i) battery of genetically engineered mouse models, ii) newly developed machine learning-based quantitative methods, and iii) spatial multi omics, we have begun to unravel the key role that cellular metabolism and myeloid cells play in determining the fate of the lesions.
